To restore and to preserve antiques is the way to let them go on travelling through the years. By no way it means to wipe the slate clean and make a fresh start. Your private patrimony suffers from the impact of time, year by year, from moving, and from changes in temperatures and humidity variations. Modern central heating inevitably dries the lime which has been used to stick the frame and the veneers of your furniture. The frame contracted and caused risings or falls of the veneers, splits... A thick yellowed or brownish varnish is hiding the state of the furniture or its genuine beauty. It also often happens that previous interventions did not respect your furniture: misplaced patching, inadequate grafts, excessive sanding, aggressive stripping,... Many antiques lovers hesitate to let realise a restoration that can be expensive. So what to do? To let the furniture as it is?
